Update from Darley Dale in Bloom

The Co-op in Darley Dale has recently presented Darley Dale in Bloom (DDiB) with a generous cheque for £150, from their Community Donations Fund, to pay for planting up and maintaining the flower beds in front of the shop. The cheque was presented by Laura Pepper, in her role as Member Pioneer for Matlock and Darley Dale, to Christine Goldsack, Chair of DDiB, other members of the committee and volunteers, and Toby the dog!

Another lovely surprise for the group was the recent installation of a ‘Chatty Bench’ in their Sensory Garden in the Whitworth Park. The bench had been kindly donated by The Audley Foundation to the Whitworth Trust, who then agreed that it could be sited in the Sensory Garden, where passers by can sit, smell the roses entwined around the arch, enjoy the other planting and have a chat!

Planting in the beds and planters around Darley Dale has now been completed. Have you seen the splash of colour from the perennial planting in the beds at the junction of Greenaway Lane and the A6? Two members of the committee had a very successful sowing of cosmos, calendula, antirrinhums and nicotiana, which have complemented the perennial planting in the beds and the annuals purchased for the planters around the town.

The group are constructing compost bins in the Whitworth Park, with the help of the Darley Dale Community Volunteers, so that they can compost down, and eventually re-use, the waste plant material created when they are working there. The pallets have been kindly donated by Milner Off Road in Darley Dale.
