You have 10 opportunities each year to get your best and most loved portable items repaired at Tideswell & District Repair Café.
Our Repair Café takes place from 10am-1pm on the 3rd Saturday of each month (except December and August) at Tideswell Community Hall.
This February we had one of our busiest sessions since launching in May 2022. We had our first telescope, which was repaired successfully for someone who lives in Ravensdale. “A fixed telescope, thank you for the genius of T-Pot (a volunteer repairer)”, wrote the owner. Another entry in our visitors’ book reads: “Thank you for repairing my 50 year-old toaster. Brilliant!” . In March we repaired our first TV successfully.
And this comment sums up what it’s all about: “Thank you… a much needed initiative to combat our throwaway world. Fixed my Nutribullet so it’s back to tasty juices and gravy-making. I now know how to keep it going and why it was broken. Thanks to the team and essential cake and coffee provided too!”
Together the local community is saving items from going to landfill and preventing carbon dioxide from being released. It’s always good for people to know they are doing something towards helping planet and people, as well as saving money. Many owners love learning how their item works and are better able to do their own fixing next time.
Now is the time to be getting garden equipment ready and sharpened for the next growing season—we can sharpen secateurs and clippers as well as knives and scissors.
If you’ve never been along, you are welcome to drop by for refreshments and a chat about how it works. We also have books and magazines about ethical purchasing you can look at to help you to make better buying decisions to benefit you and the planet.
We also host a local Seed Swap and you can find the Peak District nappy library at the Repair Café as well.
We look forward to welcoming you!
