Rare Brooch Found at Chelmorton Archaeology Dig

Sisters, Evie and Georgia with Morgause Lomas, Derbyshire Scout archaeology leader wearing her lucky hat

During the summer Scout camp archaeology dig, Morgause Lomas headed a team that drew two Derbyshire sisters into finding what was at first thought to be a muddy tent peg. After removing the soil, this was found to be no tent peg! Was it an ancient rare brooch? Could it really be true? The find headed to the British Museum for verification and yes, wow, the British Museum verification team announced it was real and was one and a half thousand years old. The sisters from Derby High School had indeed found a rare sixth century Anglo Saxon brooch.

Morgause, as Derbyshire Scout leader and wearing her lucky archaeology hat joined the sisters, Evie and Georgia for both local and national TV interviews. On one occasion chief Scout, Bear Grylls joined the interview to give his personal congratulations to the girls.
