New Lamp for Old at Bakewell Town Hall

Bakewell Town Mayor Cllr Alyson Hill switching on the newly restored feature light at Bakewell Town Hall on Friday 19th April with Mike Horrod – Trustee and Marie Wildgoose – Centre Manager

Bakewell Town & Community Trust runs and looks after Bakewell Town Hall and is spending funds and time improving the facilities. The imposing building in Bakewell town centre serves the community and provides rooms and catering facilities for numerous local events. It houses The Registrar’s Office, The Town Clerk’s Office and runs regular films, live shows, craft fairs and many other activities. Funds raised are spent on maintaining and improving the building.

Part of the ongoing improvements include the replacement of the old gas-light fitting on the ornate stairway. The original fitting was in a sorry state and missing several parts so it was decided to replace it with a modern LED light in a sympathetic reproduction. Mike Horrod, trustee made a new scrolled support to match the style of the broken lamp. He said the hardest thing was painting the new parts in suitable blobby paint to match the many years of depth of the existing paint. Topped by a safe acrylic globe the restored feature light enhances the classic style of the stairs.

Centre Manager, Marie Wildgoose who joined the BTCT team earlier this month has been very active in promoting the use of The Town Hall and will be pleased to hear from anyone who wants to be involved or needs further information.
