In the words of our President, “we certainly painted the town red” to celebrate the club’s ruby anniversary.
Our October meeting night, on the 1st Wednesday of the month, was our 40th year so in true WI style we held a party. Our current president, Linda Odell asked members to wear something red, so they did. Items on the sales table were red, hall decorations were red, and a magnificent display of red cupcakes were prepared by one of the members enhancing the buffet table, making sure there was one for everybody and some left over.
We welcomed back our First president in 1984, Elaine Cox, also, two of the original members Kath Sheldon and Maureen Corker, who are still active members, also in attendance. Members were asked over the last few months to provide photos of themselves 40 years ago as well as their current photos. My, have we changed! Some more than others. 1984 music was played throughout the evening creating more nostalgia.
Forty-seven of the fifty-four members were able to be there, so it promised to be a good night.
There are a number of Women’s Institutes local to the Matlock area but ours is central to town, providing plenty of well-lit parking in winter months and a warm welcome. Should you like to “give us a go” please come to one of our informal meetings, held on the 1st Wednesday of the month at the Edgefold Club on Edgefold Road in Matlock at 7.30pm.
