Each year Lions Clubs International HQ in the USA organises a Peace Poster competition for all Clubs around the world.
The theme this year is “Dare to Dream” and seven entries were received from students in the age range 11-13 from Highfields School by Matlock Derwent Valley Lions Club.
The judging schedule was very tight and having chosen the winner it turned out that the artist was a 12 year old Ukranian boy, Kiril Kobzar, who has been in Matlock for only 18 months. He lives with his mother and older sister and is in year 7 at Highfields.
Having come to England with no English except “Hello” and “Goodbye” he is now doing very well at school and enjoying life here. He loves music and plays guitar, likes skateboarding, kick boxing and swimming and clearly is a talented artist. He has a Grandma and Uncle still living in Ukraine and would like to go back and see them and collect his pet parrot who is being looked after by Grandma.
Having won the local competition, Kiril was entered in our District competition which he also won.
