Bakewell Branch of the Royal British Legion Women’s Section is celebrating its 90th Anniversary. Formed in 1934, it continues to fulfil the object of the RBL Women’s Section, itself formed as a separate charity in 1921, and since 2015 part of the Royal British Legion with the Section National Chair a member of the trustee board, to support the families of serving and ex-service personal. Over the last year over £1,000 has been raised for the Welfare Fund.
A special celebration tea was held recently at the Bakewell Working Men’s Club. Guests included our National Chairman, the Mayor of Bakewell, Ruth Mason our WW2 veteran, former officers and members. Guests enjoyed a recital by a local internationally-known harpish. As part of the year’s celebrations a group of members also enjoyed at day at Renishaw Hall Gardens.
The Branch meets at 7pm on the fourth Thursday of each month excluding January, at the Bakewell Working Men’s Club, and it is pleased to welcome visitors. Membership is open to anyone interested in supporting its aims.
