Big-hearted Hathersage is at it again with not one, but two good reasons to visit on Spring Bank Holiday Saturday.
Who doesn’t love reading, gardening and cake? Well you can get your fix in one swoop and support worthwhile causes at the same time when the Annual Second Hand Book Sale and the Great British Plant Swap spectacularly co-incide.
The Plant Swap, organised by Hathersage Horticultural Society, will be held in the Heart of Hathersage between 10 and 4 so bring along any seedling and cuttings you have to spare and take away anything you fancy. New offerings turn up throughout the day so don’t worry if you can’t make it first thing and don’t worry if you haven’t got anything to swap either, a small donation will suffice. All proceeds to local food banks.
The Second Hand books Sale will be held in the village Memorial Hall also between 10 and 4. Delicious home made refreshments will be available. Prices have not gone up since the sale started 12 years ago at 50p per paperback, £1 per hardback and £1 entry. Proceeds to support educational projects in the war torn Lalibela region of the Ethiopian Highlands.
If you have good saleable books to donate these can be left at the hall on Friday evening before the sale between 6 and 8.30pm and the Saturday morning from 8.30 – 9.45am.
