The Friends of Bakewell Parish Church (FOBC) was formed in 2006 to support major repairs to the building. We know that people love the building and appreciate coming to the church for services, including Remembrance Day, as well as weddings, christenings and funerals.
Our congregation is on the whole ageing and dwindling, so the Friends are bearing an increased burden in helping to keep the structure sound.
The Friends is not a religious organisation and is independent of the Church. They ask what is needed to support projects, and so far they have contributed £85,000 to support such projects as the Roof Appeal, a handrail down the outside steps to the Newark, the Newark boilers and most recently the Organ Appeal. (There will be a range of concerts to celebrate the completion of the renovation of this prestigious instrument, some time after October.)
We are looking for a new Chair and Trustee to take the Friends forward. They need to be enthusiastic and keen on fund-raising. They will have a good team to support them. Members of the church congregation and of FOBC also offer help at events.
We are inviting anyone interested in the future of the church to an Open Meeting on 18th July at 7.30pm in the Newark Room of the Church. So do come along and see what’s happening.
