Neil Glenn is perhaps best known for his book ‘Best Bird Watching Sites in Norfolk’ (and Yorkshire) but on January 13th he will be much further north: Finland and Norway. We will experience spring birdwatching amid the dramatic scenery of fjords, coastal tundra and uplands with the vast taiga forests, lakes and marshes meeting many of our wintering birds in their breeding grounds, as well as speciality birds of the far north. Our photo shows the fierce looking Pygmy Owl widespread in Finnish forests and often visible even in daytime. Neil is a freelance writer and tour leader and combines this with being chair of Nottinghamshire Birdwatchers and a proud patron of the ‘Birding For All’ charity. His other obsession is football (Notts County!).
Bakewell Bird Study Group’s presentation is, as always, at the Friends Meeting House at the end of Chapel Row off Matlock Street (A6) in Bakewell, to the left of the Methodist church. Visitors are welcome £4 on the door or you can join the group for just £7.50 for the remainder of the season, up to June, for which you will get four talks and 5 field trips which restart in April. Meetings are listed in the Peak Advertiser and at Bakewell Tourist Information Office or visit the BBSG web site at www.bakewellbirdstudygroup.org.uk or call 07768 928432.
