70th anniversary of Bakewell and District Historical Society

On Saturday 17 August, the Bakewell and District Historical Society had our Summer Social for Society Members and Bakewell Old House Museum Volunteers. It was a wonderful event, inside the newly-transformed Tudor Hall and Tudor Parlour; a chance for the organisation to say thank you to its supporters. Ken Smith, Chair of the Bakewell and District Historical Society, cut a special cake - as this year is both the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Society and the 65th anniversary of the opening of the museum!

On Tuesday 20 August, the Museum organised a new reminiscence event at the Medway Centre: Bakewell Remembered, where 75 people came to help us record what we know about Bakewell's shops and high street through the years. It was also a great opportunity for old friends to catch up with each other! We look forward to the next session on 8 October, on the theme of pubs and nightlife. The museum is enjoying greater visitor numbers than in previous years, and is open to 5 November. www.oldhousemuseum.org.uk.
